Story
For all those who know me, know that I am not a runner. Not even a little bit. But six months ago, as the country tentatively emerged from 'lockdown', the impact of Covid weighed heavily on my waistline and also my wellbeing. After some encouragement from a good friend, I reluctantly started Couch to 5k as part of my daily exercise. It was utter hell at first but slowly I got stronger, slowly I began to believe in myself and slowly I actually started to enjoy it.
Once I had completed this challenge, my competitive side kicked in and I began to talk (endlessly) to friends, family and colleagues about running, and I discovered a whole group of people who also enjoy keeping their body and, most importantly, their mind, healthy. However, with the onset of dark, cold nights and the relentless workload that school life brings, I was worried that the little piece of time I had made to do something for myself, would have to stop.
Luckily, I work with an amazing bunch of people who value and support the wellbeing of children and staff in school as much as I do (and who are mad enough to want to run 300miles before Christmas). We put our heads together and the Broughton 300mile challenge was born. Not only will this contribute to the positive mental and physical wellbeing of our staff but all the money we raise will go towards the fantastic charity: Bucks Mind. Our school works closely with this charity to offer invaluable support for our children and their families.
Now, more than ever, we need to come together, to support each other, to work as a team and to teach our children the meaning of challenge, perseverance and above all, happiness. So please, donate!
