I am running the London Marathon in October in memory of Chris Kirkland, otherwise known as Swindon Town FC and Portsmouth FCs most enthusiastic match day programme seller, everyone’s favourite teacher - Mr Kirkland, Football Grandad, Grandad, Dad, Husband, and much more.

Chris recently passed away after battling with cancer for nearly 4 years, the fight and constant positive attitude that Chris showed throughout this time was tremendous to see and an overall reflection on his fantastic character. Chris did so much for the community,  helping bring joy, opportunity and happiness to so many young people through his teaching, football fun weeks, Holland football tours, and charity fun runs.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Chris really well over the last few years after meeting him through my partner, one of his grandsons. I witnessed first hand his greatness and loved hearing all the stories he had about his classroom antics, football fun weeks and Holland tours. I am hoping to raise money in memory of Chris, as a fellow passionate runner Chris loved showing me his New York and London marathon medals along with his years of running journals where he tracked his progress. I hope I can do Chris proud with a great time whilst also raising my target of £2,000, for the Institute of Cancer Research.
