Story

On the 18th of April this year I completed 710 miles in 21 hours on my motorbike around the North coast of Scotland (the Aberdeen 710) in aid of Friends of ANCHOR.

On the 26th July, I’m going to complete a 3154 coastal lap of Britain in 100 hours taking nothing but a toothbrush with me, on the same CRF1000 bike, starting from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary again.

All I’m taking is a Toothbrush. There will be no outside support from any kind of team. I wont be taking any camping gear or bivvy bag. I’ll also not be staying at any hotels or any kind of accommodation, just sleeping rough beside my motorbike throughout the journey. I’m doing this trip in this format in support of the challenge and hardships patients diagnosed with Cancer go through.

In the same way as the Aberdeen 710, I’m donating the costs
of hotels myself to Friends of ANCHOR to get the ball rolling and this time setting a target of 10p per mile – that’s £315.40. I don’t like the idea of people feeling pressured in to giving lots of money to try and achieve a high target just because I’ve decided to challenge myself, which is why, like the Aberdeen 710, I have set a reasonable target. I also feel a target of around £300 allows everyone to get involved without feeling they have to donate £10, £20 etc. Every penny counts and if someone gives £1 they have made a real difference in achieving the target. All this being said I obviously hope to raise as much as possible for Friends of ANCHOR.

There are many reasons why I’m supporting this charity including losing my Mum to Cancer and for the support they have given friends suffering from Cancer but also, supporting the ANCHOR Unit ensures North-east
Scotland's cancer and haematology patients receive the best possible care, treatment and support. Every penny raised for Friends of ANCHOR will help make a direct difference as all the charity’s running costs are fully covered by the Balmoral Group.
