At LocatED, we seek to support charities and causes that are relevant to our employees and to our work in education, and each year our team nominates a charity to champion through employee-led fundraising activities. 

We're delighted to announce YoungMinds as our 2023-24 Charity of the Year, for the second year running, with 70% of the votes cast!

YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people’s mental health.

2022-23 Highlights

Our original fundraising target was £1,000 and, thanks to everyone’s amazing fundraising and generosity, we tripled our £1,000 target set at the start of the year, raising £3,276 by year end, through this JustGiving page and external donations! So well done to everyone who supported, donated and helped with activities!

Background

The charity was nominated by Nigel, Lead Planner: “As a grandad with four granddaughters aged 3, 7, 9 and 11, it occurred to me that the last couple of years, due to COVID, will have had an untold impact on them and other young people. Seeing adults wearing masks, older children wearing masks in school, not being allowed to go out and being locked up and schooled from home for lengthy periods, is not
natural or healthy. Who knows what impact this has had and is still having on young people?

Mental health is a massive issue and underfunded across the board. Young people are like sponges: if what they are soaking up at such a young age is negative or fear-related, it can’t be a good outcome further down the line, especially for children from less advantaged or troubled backgrounds.

That’s why I am nominating YoungMinds, an organisation that is committed to improving the mental health of children and young people, including support for parents and carers as our Charity of the Year."
