Lochore Castle also known as Inchgall Castle, meaning the ‘Island of Strangers’, Lochore Castle was the island fortress of Adam de Vallance, Knight from the 13th century.  As part of the Living Lomonds Project, Benarty Heritage Preservation Group and Fife Coast and Countryside Trust are working  to conserve this local iconic landmark and open it to the public.

Our goal is to stabilise and conserve Inchgall Castle, allowing its significance as a rare mediaeval building to be researched and explained, and its potential iconic status at Lochore Meadows to be realised.

We have already raised over £220,000 through grant sourced from a number of organisations. We still require additional funds of in the region of £108,000 to restore and stablise this iconic landmark situated within the grounds of Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Working with the Benarty Heritage Preservation Group we have decided to launch a public appeal to raise £25,000 towards the cost of restoration works schedule to start in the coming months.

The Lochore Castle Restoration Appeal is a Living Lomonds Landscape Partnership project, which is led by Fife Coast and Countryside Trust.
