The Lockdown Half · 10 May 2020

We are calling on the Great British public to help us raise funds to help our older people in this time of national crisis.

Story

During the period of lockdown, I have seen more and more friends getting into running. In fact, since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, running is up 88%. I wanted to come up with a way for people to set themselves a goal for their running, and for us all to come together for a shared experience even during social distancing. Finally, I wanted to raise some funds for an amazing charity - Age UK.

The Lockdown Half will take place on Sunday 10th May. To book your place on the run, sign up to the event page on Let's Do This: https://www.letsdothis.com/gb/e/the-lockdown-half-187604

If you don't feel like running the full 13.1miles/21.1k, why not put on some fancy dress and take part in the 5k Fun Run/Walk? You can also get your children involved for the 3k Kids Race, so the whole family can enjoy being part of this Lockdown Virtual Event. Entry costs £10 for the Half Marathon, or £5 for the 5k/3k races.

All proceeds will go towards Age UK, which does incredible work to help the most vulnerable people at this time, who don't get the benefit of regular exercise. Not only are older people at greater risk of the virus' most severe effects, but they are also more likely to suffer feelings of anxiety and loneliness during self-isolation. Sadly, 2.65m older people feel they have no one to turn to for help and around 3.9m older people consider TV to be their main form of company.

The event also coincides with the 75th Anniversary celebrations of VE Day, so there's no better time to thank and support our older friends and relatives!
