Story
Leo had the idea for his challenge while supporting
me running a Lockdown Marathon in the back garden on Sunday, instead of the
London Marathon which I should have been running that day!
As I was plodding away he was zipping around the
garden on his bike, counting his laps and clocking up the miles for his own
cycling marathon! So far (Tuesday) he’s up to 10 miles, and he aims to complete
the 26.2 marathon distance by this Sunday, 3rd May.
Leo would love other children (and adults) to join
in too, so we have created Leo’s Lockdown Challenge. The challenge is to run,
cycle or scoot as far as you can (in a safe lockdown style of course). If you
would like to take part please make a donation on this page (we suggest £2.62)
and leave a message pledging your distance, and you’ll receive a virtual goody bad and a special Lockdown Challenge
medal by email to print out, colour in and wear with pride.
My Lockdown Marathon was a last minute decision to try to raise some money for
the Yoga Mission, an incredible charity founded and run by a dear friend, which
provides education, shelter and security to disabled and disadvantaged children
and women in Varanasi, India. I was sad that the London Marathon could not go
ahead, and rather than sitting at home wishing I was running, I decided to run
the distance on a treadmill in our back garden, which I thought would be
horrific and warrant a bit of sponsorship.
Much to my surprise, my amazing family brought the event alive for me by
recreating the whole London experience from the queues for the portaloos at the
start, to the iconic landmarks en route, and there was even a foil blanket, a
medal and a finisher’s photo at the finish! You can read about it here: https://uckfieldnews.com/tara-runs-london-marathon-in-her-garden/ Leo put in a huge amount of effort to make it special,
and I’d like to return the favour by making his marathon challenge a great
experience for him.
Please consider joining in with this challenge if
you can, and if you’d like to do it but cannot donate at the moment, please
email tararuns8in8@gmail.com to pledge your distance and we will
send you your virtual goody bag and medal!
We hope that we can make a difference to many
vulnerable children’s lives whilst having fun and making a difference to our
own.
