Story

My name is Lola, I’m 10 years old and I would like to donate my long hair so it can be made into a wig that will change another little girl’s life.

My little sister Maya was diagnosed in April 2017 (then three years old) with stage IV neuroblastoma in her left adrenal gland, an aggressive type of childhood cancer affecting around 95 children in the UK every year. Neuroblastoma has one of the lowest survival rates of all childhood cancers, with only less than half of those diagnosed in the 1-4 year age group of patients surviving to five years.

Although my long hair is nowhere near as long as Princess Rapunzel’s hair, I thought long and hard before making a big decision to donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust charity because I firmly believe that “every little girl is a princess.” Instead of letting it go to waste, I want to share my “crown” with a little girl who needs it more.

The Little Princess Trust “provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24” who have lost their hair from cancer or other illnesses, according to their website. Even Catherine “Kate” Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, donates her own hair to the charity!

Luxford’s Hair and Beauty (Unit 1, The Barn, Firs Lane, Folkestone CT19 4QE Tel: 01303 270633 https://www.luxfords.salon/  kindly offered to give me a free haircut and style on SATURDAY morning 12th October. Luxford’s has a team of professional, passionate and creative stylists and therapists that can provide an extensive range of Hair & Beauty treatments offering everything to make you look and feel beautiful under one roof. I hope you can all join me there on my haircut day! Plenty of free parking next to 'The Range' which is next door situated just off the M20 junction 12 (Cheriton).

My little sister Maya’s treatment is not over yet, she has more treatments in New York over the next six months, along with bone marrow biopsies and MiBG-PET/MRI/CT scans for TWO YEARS which are also part of the New York trial. The trial in New York is aimed to help prevent relapse and we cannot THANK everyone enough for continuing to help my family raise the funds needed so that my sister and I can live a “normal childhood”. The treatment she has endured (and still facing) these last two years is intense, we are so proud of how she has handled everything. I love her dearly. Super-girl 🦸‍♀️Maya is our own little Super-duper hero 💙💛💜 Every donation helps, however small or big, I am always grateful. Please share my little sister’s story to raise awareness because finding out cancer at an early stage can save lives. Thank you for reading this.
