Emma's London Marathon 2025

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
I'm running the London Marathon 2025 for Prostate Cancer UK; to raise awareness of this condition and to help fund lifesaving research and support.
My Dad has prostate cancer. He is one of the lucky ones because he was diagnosed very early and his cancer is low grade and is being monitored very closely. Any changes will be caught early and treatment will be possible for him. Around 40% of men are not so fortunate, and it will already be too late. By the time they seek help about symptoms and are diagnosed, the cancer will already be too advanced to be successfully treated.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's someone's dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or mate. My Dad has already saved the lives of two friends just by being open about his diagnosis and encouraging them to get themselves checked by their G.P. They both had prostate cancer which was just about to spread to other parts of their body and which required the prostates to be removed in order to save their lives. Men don't tend to talk about things like this and often put things off for fear of embarrassment. What's a bit of awkwardness if it can SAVE YOUR LIFE???
As a young woman, I believe it is vital to encourage the men in your life to get checked, and to find out more about the signs and symptoms. If one person reading this goes on to get checked then the hours of training and inevitable aches and pains of running the Marathon will be MORE than worthwhile for me.
Please give generously to help me reach my fund-raising target and to help me achieve my life-goal of completing the London Marathon before I turn 20!
Thank you!
