Story
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. Thanks to early detection and surgery, I am now cancer free. Many men aren’t so lucky. That’s why I’m running the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK — to raise funds, raise awareness, and help save lives. Please support me if you can.
On 25th April this year, I heard the words no one ever wants to hear:
“I’m very sorry to inform you that you have prostate cancer.”
What started as a routine annual health check turned into the beginning of a journey I will never forget. I felt fit, healthy, symptom-free. But a slightly raised PSA led to an MRI, then a biopsy, and finally the diagnosis: prostate cancer.
Two months ago, I had robotic surgery to remove my prostate. After 3.5 hours under the knife, I got the best news I could have hoped for: the cancer was contained, it hadn’t spread, and my PSA is now negligible. I am, for now, cancer free - words I will never take for granted.
I know how lucky I am. I only caught this early because I have access to annual health checks through work. Many men aren’t as fortunate. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men:
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
For men of African or Caribbean heritage, it’s 1 in 4.
And too often, it’s not spotted until it’s already too late - That’s why I’m running the London Marathon 2026 for Prostate Cancer UK.
I want to:
Raise vital funds for research and support,
Raise awareness so more men get checked early,
And hopefully inspire at least one man to take a simple PSA test that could save his life.
Back in 2015, I ran the New York Marathon and swore I’d never do another. But this diagnosis has given me a new sense of purpose. I owe it to myself, to my family and friends, and to the countless men affected by this disease.
I would be so grateful for any donation you can make. Every pound goes directly towards the fight against prostate cancer — funding research, supporting men through treatment, and spreading the vitally important message that early detection saves lives.
A genuine thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, for supporting, and for helping me turn my journey into something that can help others.
Please give whatever you can. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference.
