Story

I am taking on the 2022 London Landmarks Half Marathon to support King's College Hospital Charity! Hi all, thanks for coming to my page! I am running the LLM Half-Marathon this year to raise money for which I think you will all agree is a worthy cause. I have a strong affinity to Kings College Hospital for many reasons. Firstly, I have served the Southwark community for many years as a secondary school teacher. I have worked with thousands of young people and their families, and I see first hand the struggles certain aspects of the community have faced following the pandemic whilst also facing a time where cost of living is rising. Kings College Hospital charity work very closely with the Southwark community and provide support to those most vulnerable in our society, so raising money for a cause so close to home is an important challenge for me. Secondly, as those close to me know, I have struggled with asthma all of my life. In fact, I've never even been able to contemplate running prior to being treated at Kings College Hospital. The respiratory care team there are some of the best I have ever seen, and for the first time in my 29 years, I have asthma that is well controlled and I finally feel I can breathe, live and exercise normally. The hospital is fantastic, and I wish to be able to support the NHS in a time of crisis and raise funds for the organisation. Finally, I think we can all agree that the NHS have been incredible over the last few years, and they have been doing so whilst also facing an onscene amount fo cuts and pubnlic criticism. My partner is an intensive care respiratory physiotherapist, and has worked on the front line throughout the entire pandemic, so I know how hard these guys have been fighting for the health of our country. I also know how hard they are finding it due to the budget cuts, understaffing and the overcrowding of hospitals. Raising money for the charity will at least begin to alleviate some of that pressure. For all of you know that know me, running isn't easy for me. This isn't going to be a fun run. I will be training hard and struggling the whole way round! So please support me and donate! Even if it's as little as a £1, it will all go towards something great. Thanks for reading! Conor x
