Story
On 23rd April I'll finally get the chance to run the London Marathon (again)! It is the place that I trained for back in 2020 as a younger, fitter, lighter, generally healthier and less grey-haired version of the 2023 me.
When training for the 2020 marathon, I raised nearly £2k for the Ectopic Pregnancy trust. But I had to settle for running the 'Virtual London Marathon', which I did on the roads and canals of Hampshire and Surrey in October 2020, assisted by a band of merry helpers (bro Carl (cover photo), Pete (other photo) and Adam and Rich. They were amazing, parituclarly given the hideous weather. This year I am hoping to run it with tens of thousands of others on the streets of London as the charity has kindly rolled my place over to 2023.
I am continuing to raise money for this fabulous cause and am hoping I can add a bit to the money raised previously. If you did sponsor me before then please don't feel you should do so again.....but any contributions would, of course, be hugely appreciated.
I am a bit late to the fundraising party as an injury in the summer of 2022 made my participation in this event questionable. But some good physio has helped me to be confident of being on the start line in London
Why this cause? Ectopic pregnancies are surprisingly common. But their impact can be huge, both in the short term, but also the longer term even if it is found and treated early. We've had personal experience of this, as have those close to us. Since then we've always considered ourselves incredibly fortunate for our two (not so) little ones.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust strives to provide information, education and support to those affected by early pregnancy complications and to the health professionals who care for them. Ectopic pregnancy is a common, life-threatening condition that is the leading cause of maternal death in the first trimester of early pregnancy. The condition affects around 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and occurs when an embryo grows outside of the womb. The EPT believes that the deaths and trauma associated with ectopic pregnancy should be prevented. They seek to relieve the distress associated with the experience and provide ongoing support through their treatment and beyond. Please support our passionate runners who will be training hard to pound the streets of London raising crucial funds and awareness for ectopic pregnancies.
