Lone Pine Hill Country is a very limited edition book by Malcolm Saville Society co-founder, Mark O’Hanlon, and is being published to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Malcolm Saville’s first visit to Shropshire. Presented in a classic scrapbook format, it contains early Shropshire photographs, many from Malcolm Saville's own family albums, including those from 1937 when he first came to Shropshire on holiday.

An impressive 98% of the book’s content reveals completely new material which has never before been shared outside of his circle of family and friends. Some of this breakthrough material even ‘challenges’ information previously considered to be fact.

Lone Pine Hill Country has been written and compiled by Mark O’Hanlon, using a selection of donated photographs of the Long Mynd and its environs, dating from the 1930s – 1970s. There are two main aims to the book:

1.    To raise money for The Children’s Society.

2.    To share new research material with followers of Malcolm Saville’s work today and to ensure the material is preserved and accessible to future generations.

To achieve these aims, two copies of the book will be offered for private sale by eBay auction to raise money for the charity. A further six copies of the book will be donated to the UK National Library Archives; another two books will be donated to the Saville family archive (the author will retain the remaining two copies).

The hardback book (with dust-wrapper) measures 25 x 20 cm (landscape) and will contain twenty-four glossy pages packed full of over one hundred black-and-white photographs and ephemera, annotated and arranged in the style of a scrapbook. Over 70% of these photos originate from Malcolm Saville’s own family photograph albums. The pages will be in colour, with each chapter theme identified by different pastel tones, which will give the book a fresh look and feel.  What's more, the book is dressed in a bespoke, fitted presentation box, complete with a gold foil inlaid title header on the lid and is wrapped in gold coloured tissue paper.

So what is the auction all about?

This is a truly exclusive initial publication of only twelve hardback books. The “Lone Pine Hill Country” charity auction is an exciting opportunity for you to buy one of just two copies of this first edition book, that are being offered for sale via eBay auction, to raise money for The Children’s Society; a charity who do such great work in helping vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the UK today.

Using the auction website provides transparency and ensures that everyone has a fair chance to bid on the books from the comfort of home. It will also ensure that 100% of any money raised will go directly to The Children's Society so they can start putting the money to good use without delay.

The “Lone Pine Hill Country” grand auction event will commence at 7pm on 24th June, 2017. It will be a 7-day auction and we will add a web link to this page once the auction is underway - you will then also be able to find us by searching for "Malcolm Saville" on eBay. This will be a low starting price and no reserve auction.

•    The limited edition books are individually numbered and the highest bidder will receive book number one – the very first book in the print-run; the next highest bidder will receive book number two.

•    Both books will be sold as part of the same auction with the price that each purchaser pays, being determined by the value of where their bidding completes within the auction process.

•    The highest bidder will immediately be notified by eBay when the auction closes and will be asked to complete payment in the normal way.

•    The second highest bidder will be sent a Second Chance Offer through eBay, shortly after the auction closes, in order to receive notification and to complete their purchase.

This is surely a once in a lifetime opportunity for collectors to purchase some amazing Saville family ephemera and 100% of any money raised from the auction, will go directly to The Children’s Society.
