Manchester to Edinburgh · 28 May 2022

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is the world's leading medical humanitarian aid organisation. We work in over 70 countries - in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. We are independent, neutral and impartial. We provide medical care where it's needed most.

Story

Hi, I'm James and I'll be going on a Big Northern Walk for 350 miles from Manchester to Edinburgh, to raise money for Doctors Without Borders.

Doctors Without Borders are an incredible humanitarian organisation, who offer impartial and neutral medical assistance to victims of conflict, disasters, and epidemics. Recently, a lot of their work has been focused on proving medical aid to the civilian victims of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They are also actively providing humanitarian medical support in more than 70 countries around the world, including in Syria, Lebanon, and Bangladesh.

I really respect and admire the work that Doctors Without Borders do, which is why I decided to raise funds for them with the Big Northern Walk. On the 28th May 2022, I will leave my flat in Salford Quays, Manchester, and attempt to walk to Edinburgh. It is a 350 mile journey that will take me at least 3 weeks.

I will be backpacking and camping over some of the most wild and rugged scenery in the UK has to offer, across the Peak District, the Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales, the Cheviot Hills, and even the rolling green hills of southern Scotland. I will summit mountains, cross waterfalls, and attempt to brave whatever the elements throw at me, all whilst carrying a tent and all of my provisions on my back.

This will be the biggest physical challenge I have ever undertaken, and I have been training for this journey since last winter. I would very much appreciate it if you, the person reading this, would please donate whatever money you can to my fundraising efforts. You'll be motivating me to keep pushing with on this journey, and your money will go directly to helping blameless victims of war and disaster around the world.
