Losing weight to support the New Dyfi Wildlife Centre Building Appeal · 28 August 2019

This campaign is part of our fundraising efforts to raise the £60,000 we need to match fund the Heritage Lottery Fund grant that we have applied for.

Story

As some of you are aware I suffer from Type 2 Diabetes. Uncontrolled Diabetes can lead to many life changing health effects: Blindness, kidney damage, nerve damage,  amputations, heart attacks and strokes. One of the best ways to minimise those risks is to lose weight and I have at least 3 stone to lose and I am aiming to lose it by the end of February 2020. Perfectly possible to do but I need to be well motivated to do it, instead of constantly putting it off!  So......

As many of you  also know I am passionate about the Ospreys in the UK. They became extinct here around 1916 due to persecution and egg collection by humans, but have slowly been recovering in Scotland
since a pair arrived in the 1950's. Recovery in the rest of the UK has been very slow although it is beginning to happen.

There are currently only 5 Active nests in Wales. The Dyfi Osprey Project in mid wales is one and is a very special place to visit. The small staff and many volunteers do a wonderful job of working towards the conservation of these beautiful birds and have made a huge contribution over the last 13 years or so to the re-establishment of the birds in Wales

Until now they have worked to do this in very poor and basic accommodation - ancient cramped portacabins which leak when it rains, no running water and a trek across the carpark to the toilet facilities - no fun when it rains!

They now have plans to create a new carbon neutral wildlife centre - an eco-building - which will be fantastic. The new building will include exhibition areas and a 100 seat venue for educational talks and group visits, a 'changing places' disabled toilet and a wheelchair lift, as well as a cafe, a viewing gallery and a shop (among other things). This building will be totally amazing and a wonderful place to spread the news about the wonderful work done to help Osprey conservation

Work on it starts on 1st September this year but they still need to raise more funding so I am looking to raise at least £1000. I really, really want to contribute to their funding so I have decided that the best thing I can do is to help them while I also help myself!  All the motivation I need for a very worthwhile cause

All donations raised will go directly to the Dyfi Wildlife Centre. I also promise that if I don't lose the weight, all donations will be refunded by me. I also will give regular updates on Facebook and elsewhere on my progress
