We are all touched by the heartbreak of heart and circulatory diseases. Whether youre taking on an epic personal challenge, organising an event or doing an online collection, every pound you raise will help fund life saving research.

Story

Our dad wasn't supposed to die.  He had an infection in his spine, which spread to his aortic valve which was replaced through 2 rounds of open heart surgery.  None of this was easy for any of us.  But he was making a good recovery and was due to be discharged from hospital when, unexpectedly his heart stopped and he died.  None of this was fair either, and it still makes us really sad but if it wasn't for the amazing work of the cardiology team in Edinburgh he wouldn't have had half a chance.  Dad had been diagnosed with heart failure and due to the discitis, had really deteriorated but their optimism and interventions had given us hope.   It's exactly 10 years since Dad died 28/12/2011.   Unfortunately, we continue to be overwhelmingly affected by cardiac complications these past few years, often with devastating outcomes, and although we wish we knew more and could do more, it's a minefield.  This year I've decided to run my first marathon in ages to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my Dad, and for our family and friends, to support their pioneering research into heart and cardiovascular diseases and provide support and training to help others.  Given these challenging times, your support would be massively appreciated.
