Spinathon 2016 · 13 May 2016 ·

Nordoff and Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. Through the power of music, it breaks through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. The charity does this through providing music therapy to people across the UK, whilst also training the music therapists of the future and funding research to measure and improve the impact of its work.

Story

From hot yoga to British military fitness to 3h spinathons ... It's fair to say we both like a physical (and mental) challenge now and again. So when one of our dear Committee members mentioned a 3h spinathon on Friday 13 May, we agreed - and then afterwards we thought about it ...

This is our experience of spinning in a nutshell: Lorraine: 0 minutes / Camille: 45 minutes

Additional external factors making it just that little bit more exciting:
9am Thursday 12 May (day before said Spinathon): Camille lands following an 8h overnight flight - jet lag anyone?
6pm Thursday 12 May: Lorraine and Camille attend a lovely colleague's leaving party - nuff said!

We are of course doing this to support Nordoff Robbins. We have both been lucky enough to see first hand how music therapy is such a powerful tool for good. It makes children in pain smile, it helps parents and grandparents relive a joyous moment in their life, it brings families closer together, it support children with special needs develop skills and confidence, and it helps people struggling with the aftermath of accidents and strokes heal again.
