I'm running the Hackney Half in aid of The Brilliant Club!  I've worked for The Brilliant Club since 2018 and think it's amazing organisation that makes an important impact.

The Brilliant Club is a university access charity that works with schools and universities across the UK. We mobilise the PhD community to support students who are less advantaged to access the most competitive universities and succeed when they get there. 

The work The Brilliant Club does is important because, in the UK, there are persistent gaps in access to the most competitive universities (which have been exacerbated by the pandemic). Currently, students from the least advantaged backgrounds have a 3 in 100 chance of going to the most competitive universities, compared with 1 in 3 for the most advantaged. This disadvantage doesn’t disappear when students enter university. Disadvantaged students are 3x more likely to miss out on a 1st or 2:1 grade at university. This affects an individual beyond their time at university and impacts society as a whole.
