Story
During the first lockdown my sister and I did daily workouts in the garden. Having gone back to college I have had less time to stay fit and my workouts are now inside. Recently I have been on the training bike more and more. I enjoy my workouts but I'm really aware they only benefit me - I had this idea to make them benefit others.
The catalyst for this cycle was when a close member of family was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. At a time like this, the pressure on the NHS is immense and the added need for a vaccine for Covid. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK with one woman diagnosed every 10 minutes and about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Every year around 11,500 women and 85 men die from breast cancer in the UK – that’s nearly 1,000 deaths each month, 31 each day or one every 45 minutes.
Regularly checking your breasts for anything different or new is important. I have added the link for the NHS homepage for breast cancer: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/breast-cancer/
I have decided to set the challenge of doing a 24hr bike ride for cancer on the 22nd December. During this ride I will be on the bike, with breaks every couple of hours to stop and refuel etc.
I will be posting updates on an Instagram account: @lottiecycles4cancer
