Story
Thanks for visiting #teamclague's fundraising page.
Last year #teamclague raised over £30,000 running the Great Manchester Run for Christies in memory of Andy, my husband and best friend of over 20 years. He died just over 12 months ago. Before his illness, he was as fit as the proverbial butcher's dog - a slightly obsessed cyclist, a huge family man and the best Dad to Izzy and Louie. But cancer does not discriminate and in November 2015 a sneeze sent two electric shocks down his legs and over the course of 5 days, he lost the use of them. Surgery uncovered a tumour strangling his spinal cord and a biopsy revealed Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma - a blood cancer. Andy died on December 27th 2018. He was just 46.
#teamclague evolved, as these things usually do, in a pub. We started with 3 or 4 of us but in the end 35 of us ran the Greater Manchester Run 2018 and now we are preparing for Andy's run #2, The Greater Manchester Run 2019. Our team is made up of family and friends who, back then, were non-runners. They are all experts now! What is most touching to me is the journey they undertook to get fit enough to complete the challenge, and then carried on running afterwards. All for Andy. He has changed people and the bond that has grown from the camaraderie between us is very touching. And they are back for more.
This year, our focus is on getting more people on the stem cell register. Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. Stem cell donors can provide a second chance of life. One person really can make a difference.. and it starts with a simple swab of your cheek (or swab your gob if you're a northerner!).
We have a number of donor registration days organised to get more people registered. On The Beach, where Andy worked, have set up three registration days across their offices to bump start our campaign, the first of which is on the 10th April in Manchester. They have been incredibly supportive. Similarly PWC are supporting us thanks to my incredible niece Lucy, who has taken the bull by the proverbial horns and she will be adding to the register with their employees.
The more people who join the register, the greater the difference we can make together. Let's see how many new donors we can get!. Aim high!
Join the stem cell register: DKMS UK (opens in a new tab) .Please use this link so we can monitor how many new donors #teamclague have introduced.

It costs £40.00 to process every new potential donor, so for those who are precluded or cannot register, or, you simply want to make a donation this page is for you. Thank you.
Living without Andy is tough and continues to challenge us as a family. Our children have to cope with not having an incredible Dad and missing out on things I know Andy was desperate to do... taking Louie for his first pint (he's only 12), and walking Izzy down the aisle would have been one of his proudest moments. They won't get to share those golden moments..
Thank you very much.
