This year 3 teams, one from Citi, one from Goldman Sachs, and one from Jupiter, will be battling to win the Teach First Cup. The cup will be awarded to the highest fundraising and the fastest team.

Story

On 30th July, alongside an elite field of Citi cyclists (Conor Davis, Chris Gooch, Dean Hudson, Michael Lavelle), I will be taking part in the Pru 100 mile Ride London and raising money for Teach First (a charity focused on Education).

Why Teach First:

  • Shockingly, the UK is ranked 22nd in Maths and 27th in reading. Just one in three pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds obtain five good GCSEs, only one in five will go to university, and the odds of reaching Oxford or Cambridge is 1500:1.

  • The Approach: Teach First places top graduates to teach at schools in low-income communities in the UK for two years to raise educational attainment. Additionally they run a two-year university mentoring scheme that helps hundreds of pupils a year access top universities.

  • The Result: 82% of those mentored go to university, 40% to top universities and 8 pupils this year got into Oxford or Cambridge (of
    just 40 disadvantaged pupils nationwide).

  • For every £1250 we raise, we can sponsor a pupil through this life-changing two-year programme.

Citi have supported Teach First since it was founded in 2002, donating over  £2.5m through donations and funds raised through our annual e for Education initiative. Citi are also Headline Sponsor of Teach First’s annual Run the River 10k event.

We hope you’ll get behind this great cause and help us give more children an excellent education.

300 Teach First pupils will also be taking part in the Ride – an amazing and motivating experience for them.
