Story

Back in 2009, a close friend lost their battle to Cancer. Katie was aged only 23 and has left a huge gap in all our lives. Katie's battle developed rapidly and nobody could anticipate the speed in which this horrible illness would take a hold.

Each year myself and friends run race for life in memory of KT, but this year as well as doing the run, I wanted to do something extra special, in honour of her memory for what would have been the year of KT's 30th birthday.

I see running as my hobby so I wanted to challenge myself to something different. For anybody who knows me, they will know, I'm not keen on heights nor am I particularly keen on flying, mainly take off and landing.. completing this challenge only involves a take off and a slightly different landing.. what better challenge to take...

Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund is a local charity based at Bournemouth Hospital, which also happens to be the chosen charity of KT's family. Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund have launched a campaign to raise £60,000.00 for funds needed to purchase the  “Next Generation” Sequencer which cannot currently be funded by the NHS locally. This instrument will enable a Single DNA Test to give individual diagnostic information which in many cases will provide specific treatments for patients with solid tumours and blood cancers at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital. This will be of great benefit to current and future patients and to the research carried out by the charity's dedicated doctors and scientists into the causes and driving forces of blood cancers.

My aim is to raise £600, which equates to 1% of the total amount required. If I can achieve this with your help, not only will I be able to say I helped, but each and every one of you will be able to say I helped contribute too.  If in turn this leads to helping save at least one life, and the heart ache of one family... I will know we've made a difference!!

Thank you for taking the time to read my story :-)
