Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for a cause that’s very close to our hearts.
Earlier this year, we lost my brother Ollie to SUDEP, aged 28. SUDEP is the sudden, unexpected death of someone with epilepsy who was otherwise healthy.
Ollie first began having seizures in his early teens, and would have them fairly regularly. Despite the heavy medication and constant risk that he had to deal with on a daily basis, he made sure to live life to the fullest. He was a talented graphic designer, loved surfing, music, rugby, and was always incredibly positive, supportive and caring towards his family and friends.
Each year, more than 1 in 1,000 people with epilepsy die from SUDEP, making it the leading cause of death in people with uncontrolled epilepsy. The cause of SUDEP remains unknown, and more research and funding is needed.
So a group of us have got together to run the Hackney Half on Sunday 22 May in memory of Ollie and for SUDEP Action, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy risks, preventing epilepsy deaths, and supporting those bereaved from epilepsy.
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference to the vital work SUDEP Action does for those suffering with epilepsy and for families affected by this condition.
Thank you,
Louis
