Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In August 2021 we welcomed our third son in to the world. He was delivered 4 weeks early as he had stopped growing between scans.
Shortly after he was born he began to struggle with his breathing it got worse and he stopped breathing for himself. The swift intervention of the midwife meant he was quickly in the care of the NICU staff.
For the next three weeks he remained there while he gathered his strength.
We were one of the fortunate families whose stay was short. Some families are not so lucky and they and their babies remain there for prolonged periods.
The staff of NICU provide our babies with the highest level of care conducting procedures on the tiniest of children, keeping watch over them 24 hours a day all in the knowledge sometimes there won’t be a happy outcome. They not only provide this care for the babies but they ensure the parents are supported throughout reassuring when a monitor alarms, covering us while we sleep and making sure we’re feed and watered. The doctors and nurses are supported by the equally fantastic ward staff and the volunteers.
I don’t think it possible to thank these people enough for what they do. I hope by completing the Cotswold Half Ironman I am able to raise some money which can be used to help other sick and premature babies via Scoo-B-Doo. The charity was founded in 1982 and provides essential items and equipment. Over 80% of the equipment used on the ward has been funded by Scoo-B-Doo.
As we all know the NHS is under financial pressure and these donations are vital to supporting the care these babies need and giving them the best possible outcome. Thanks to NICU and Scoo-B-Doo Lucas is now 7 months old and a happy smiling baby.
