Story
I am doing 100k in March for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. I'm not the biggest fan of running but for everything Alder Hey have done for Cody I want to give something back.
In May 2024 our youngest, Cody, was diagnosed with a rare condition called Hirschsprung’s Disease. We had never even heard of it before. It affects around 1 in 5,000 children and basically means part of his bowel doesn’t work properly.
Since then our lives have completely changed. Cody has had multiple operations, including two stoma surgeries and a major 8-hour pull-through operation, along with more hospital admissions than we can count.
If you know Cody and have seen him running around, you honestly wouldn’t think anything was wrong. He’s our brave, football-mad, wild child. Full of energy. Always smiling.
We’re incredibly lucky to have Alder Hey on our doorstep. When you’re on the wards and you see families travelling from all over the UK, you realise how special it is. Ward 3A in particular have been amazing with Cody over the last two years.
Being around the hospital, you see first-hand what the charity actually does. It’s not just equipment. It’s the extras that make a horrible time a little bit easier for kids and families.
If you’d like to support, share or donate, it genuinely means a lot to us.
