Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
During the last two years many people found their mental health suffer due to the social restrictions that the Covid virus brought with it. People who had never experienced such distress found themselves isolated, lonely and often struggling financially. Then there were the people already suffering mentally who had to try and navigate the new strange world. The mental health services that people depended on went on line and hugs from friends were not allowed. The mental health services became stretched out of all recognition.
I was one of those people who suffered. For many reasons my mental health took a nosedive early 2020. What felt like out of nowhere I started to decline rapidly. My friends and family rallied around but depression and anxiety had taken such a hold that life became meaningless and hopeless.
This year in May I found myself being admitted to the Warneford Hospital in Oxford after a serious episode. The Warneford, a place I'd heard about, never imagining i would end up there, became my safe haven. The nurses kept us safe and spent time listening to us when we felt completely overwhelmed.
One thing I noticed though was that there was a lack of therapeutic interventions. The kind of things that could help people heal and even more importantly go on to recover fully. Many people yoyo back and forth to these hospitals. It's no life. The staff do their very best but there is so much more that needs to be done. Coming from a therapeutic background I was constantly frustrated as i could see that the time spent in the hospital could of been better spent. Meditation classes, movement classes and talk therapy would help so many people and give people the tools they need to recover.
A casual mention from a friend that we should walk Ben Nevis has turned into a real passion to raise much needed funds for The Warneford. The money will be spent on introducing therapeutic services.
I am much better now and back living a happy life, working and socialising again. I have had a lot of help through talking therapy, EMDR, running and walking and i get creative as much as i can. I have supportive friends and family. Not everyone has these things available to them. Please help as much as you can. I have a lovely team of friends that i'll be walking with.
