Louisa France is raising money for Birdshot Uveitis Society

Hi Friends, thanks for clicking..
In July 2017 I noticed changes to my vision out of the blue. I was subsequently diagnosed with a rare, progressive and potentially blinding eye condition called Birdshot Chorioretinopathy. I am on a medication plan to stabilise the condition and prevent further deterioration but there is no known cure at present.
Unfortunately there is little commercial interest in funding research into better treatment as the disease is so rare. Treatment to control it involves a daily cocktail of immune suppressants and other harsh drugs which cause their own problems. The Birdshot Uveitis Society charity is run by volunteers and provides support and information for those of us who have it and raises money for new research.
Another (much better) thing that happened in 2017 was that I signed up for a charity cycle on a whim, bought a road bike, joined a cycle club and became hooked! In 2018 I decided to use the good to improve the bad by asking people to sponsor me to cycle 2018 miles in 2018 by making a donation to The Birdshot Uveitis Society Charity.
I completed the challenge in 2018 riding 2200 miles and climbing over 110,000 ft. I participated in a number of Sportives, including the Humber Bridge Sportive, Yorkshire Lass Sportive, Wharfedale Ton, and the Tour of the Borders. Huge thank you to everyone who donated. I have decided to keep this page open as I plan to do some further cycle challenges in 2019 and beyond.
