Aspire Channel Swim 2019 · 9 September 2019 to 2 March 2020 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2019, swimming the distance of the Channel in the pool over 12 weeks to raise money which provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently. I do this in memory of my dad, Ronnie Brown(1947 -2016) who suffered a life changing spinal injury in an industrial accident.  My first swim in 2016, I walked poolside with the aid of sticks, I was morbidly obese and struggled to complete the distance in the timeframe. This year, I have done away with my walking sticks, I'm close to remission with Type 2 diabetes and am 5 stones lighter and counting. I want to do this challenge in days, not weeks or months. Therefore, Allez! Mes amis...Allez!
