Most people reading this will know of at least one man who took his own life, whether they were a family member, an old school friend, a colleague, or that lad you sometimes bumped in to in your local pub.
And, of course we are all aware of the talented musicians and actors who ended their lives too soon. Shockingly, suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45. The frightening truth, is that men often take their own lives, whilst their family and close friends were unaware that their loved one was in so much pain. A change in attitude towards men who are struggling, along with greater knowledge and help networks is desperately needed. CALM is a charity that aims to combat male suicide by raising awareness and challenging the stereotype that men can’t talk about being sad. They run a suicide prevention helpline, and a bereavement line for those who have lost loved ones.
So… I will be running the Hackney half Marathon on the
19th of May. The cause is one close to my heart, and I would appreciate any little you can give so together we can raise money for this fantastic charity.
I know we all like to know we’re donating money when a hard core challenge is involved. Rest assured, I only started running again mid march, so its definitely NOT going to come easy to me, but apologies that its not a full marathon…next time!
Let this be for all our men feeling too sad to cope,
Thank you in advance for your support
