Pilgrims Hospices is a charity providing palliative care, free of charge, to people in east Kent. For people with a range of life-limiting illnesses, specialist services are provided from our three hospices in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet, in patients' homes and via community programmes.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fortunate enough to have a ballot place for this year's London Marathon which gives me the opportunity to raise money for a charity of my choice.  Having run the Marathon three years ago in memory of my daughter, Joanna, the decision to choose another charity was for me was an easy one - Pilgrims Hospice in Ashford.  When I found out I had a place for the 2008 London Marathon, my mum Patricia and my dad Chris were delighted, and promised to support me every step of the way.  Unfortunately, my mum became unwell in January 2008, and was subsequently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  After a short but brave battle, she died nine days before I ran the 26.2 miles around our capital city.  I felt Mum and Joanna were with me, as I pounded around the arduous course, and vowed if I was to ever do it again, I would raise money for the wonderful hospice in Ashford who cared for my much-loved mother.

I am currently well on track with my training having run 20.14 miles last weekend and as well as doing a long run every weekend, I also run two to three times during the week.  I have also committed to two half marathons, so hope by the time April 17th comes around I will be ready and willing to complete the course in a respectable time, safe in the knowledge I have raised a few pounds for Pilgrims Hospice, and achieved something positive following the loss of my mum.

Thank you VERY much.
