Story
On the 8th of November 2013, Super-typhoon Yolanda hit the islands of Samar and Leyte. It's nearly one year on and victims of Yolanda are still suffering from the immediate effects of the disaster. Most people I meet lost family members, their livelihoods and many are still homeless but trying really hard to rebuild their lives.
All Hands Volunteers have been working with local people, other NGO's and aid agencies to build transitional shelters. Although huge progress has been made, 31,000 of those affected by the typhoon still lack adequate housing.
We want to raise money to build permanent homes. Two core homes have been built as a pilot and now our goal is to raise 1.1 million Pesos: a peso for every home damaged or destroyed by Yolanda. That's just over 19,000 euro or 15,000GBP.
With these funds, Project Leyte can build 9 permanent homes for 9 deserving and lovely families. And the more we raise, the more homes we can build.
It's less than a month until the anniversary of Yolanda, and along with other fundraising activities, we're planning a 300km bike ride following the path of the typhoon to help create awareness about the recovery and devastation that remain one year on.
Please support us, and donate! Every single pound/euro adds up.
