Story
Inspired by two exceptional people, I decided that on Sunday 4th Sept I will be taking part in my first triathlon, and while I’m at it I would love it if I could raise some money for the incredible cause that is Macmillan Cancer Support.
James Beechey was a British Army officer who I had the pleasure of serving with in the Royal Artillery. He was the embodiment of the phrase “an officer and a gentleman”, excelled at his job, and he was also an exceptional triathlete. He very sadly lost a short battle with bowel cancer in April this year at the age of 40, leaving behind his wife Samantha, and two young children.
Cuong Dang was of my wonderful neighbours. He always had a smile and a wave for anyone one he knew. He possessed an incredible intellect and could talk to anyone about anything - he was one of those few people you didn’t dread accidentally meeting on public transport during your morning commute, as you knew there would be engaging conversation all the way. A keen runner, even while he was receiving treatment for leukaemia he was fundraising for Macmillan. He lost his battle with leukaemia in April 2021.
I’m pretty nervous as although each of the events individually are reasonably achievable, stringing them together while trying to do them as fast as I can is a whole different ball game.
The event involves:
•750m swim in a lake (no pool side to rest at 😰)
•25km bike ride through the Shropshire hills (usually 20km but this one has a bonus 5km..🤢)
•5 km run
I’ve been training since the start of July… that’s loads of time right…? So if you would like to make a donation, however small, it would really pile the pressure on to get this done! 😉
