As you may know, last year I walked 100km through the night as part of the Race to the Stones. It was very challenging, but I loved doing it (at least afterwards!) and I was able to raise money for the Children's Family Trust. I had hoped to do a similar event this year, but Covid-19 put a stop to that.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 hasn't put a stop to the need for the very important work that the Children's Family Trust do. As some may already know, my mum is a trustee for CFT and I have heard first hand about the good work they do. But for those who haven't heard of them, the CFT is a not-for-profit foster agency whose view is that care for foster children shouldn't stop when they are 16 or 18, but they are all entitled to a "family for life". The CFT works with the foster families so that they can provide the children with the support they need, both emotional and practical, as they grow into adulthood. 

The work that they are doing is, sadly, now more important than ever with severe pressures across society presenting heightened risk for some children. Barnados has reported a 44% increase in foster referrals since the start of the pandemic, whilst there has been a 47% reduction in enquiries from those seeking to foster. The CFT is working harder than ever to work for children who need fostering and the families that care for them.

To help them raise money at this time, I have entered the Virtual Race to the Stones this year. This doesn't require me to walk 100km in one go, but over the course of a week, starting on Monday 6 July. However, if anything, this may prove to be more challenging as I will need to fit it round work and homeschool. To save time, I am going to run as much of it as possible....
