Story

On the 11th February 2016 my sister-in-law Holly-Marie Sharman was supposed to go to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice care for 2 weeks of respite. Unfortunately she was only there for a few hours and then lost her battle with breast cancer. It was a shock to the whole family how suddenly she was taken from us and was the worst day of my life. Holly left behind her family, our family and my brother with 2 young children. Holly, wasn't just a sister-in-law to me, but she was my big sister that I always wanted. I grew up with her in my life from the age of 11 and I still miss her everyday.

Even though Holly was only at Phyllis Tuckwell for such a short amount of time, the services they offered her family and my family during this difficult time was just incredible. Years later I found myself needing support and I didn't know where to turn. I contacted Phyllis Tuckwell and they helped me through a very difficult period of my life providing counselling to help me work through my grief which had slowly over time become more unmanageable and harder to ignore / bury my feelings.

I am running this half-marathon to help raise money as a thank you to Phyllis Tuckwell for their support, and to raise funds to help them continue their vital work in the community. Anything you can donate is really appreciated.

----------

Phyllis Tuckwell is the only Hospice Care service for adult patients, and their families, living with cancer or another terminal illness (such as heart, lung or neurological disease) across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire. We only get 20% Government/NHS funding, so our work is reliant on voluntary donations, which means we do have to ask for money. It cost £25,000 everyday to keep our services running and free of charge.
