Story
I have now completed the Bristol Half Marathon held on Sunday 6th September 2009. Having swapped my high heels for trainers I have now completed the race, hoorah! My sister and brother-in-law asked me to run in aid of Home-Start Bristol which has been a huge support to them this year and their 3 young boys. My darling nephews are wonderful but the eldest is 2yrs (soon to be 3!) and the twins 20 months, so getting out the house, changing nappies and mealtimes to name just a few things is tough going! She has had a wonderful volunteer visit one morning a week to help out with the children and would like to thank the charity for all their help to date.
Thank you so much for the fantastic donations.
Any continued support would be greatly appreciated. I have just completed the Herts 10K Challenge held on Sunday 11th October 2009.
Home-Start Bristol has been helping families in the area for almost 30 years. It has a small group of professional staff who train and supervise volunteers with parenting experience (cost £25 for 1 week for each volunteer) and match them with struggling families who have at least one child under 5yrs. Multiple births is just one situation when a family may need support from Home-Start, others include parents struggling with debt, poor housing, family conflict, managing children’s behaviour, depression or other acute problems. A volunteer will help the whole family but often spends a lot of time with small children; talking, listening to them and encouraging language development. They are equipped with a kit of toys and books (cost £10 to add toys) which will help pre-school children to play in a constructive, creative way and develop concentration and imagination. Parents say wonderful things about Home-Start Bristol support: ‘It’s a very supportive and helpful service.’ ‘It’s like a weight has been lifted!’ ‘I would recommend Home-Start to anyone in need.’ Please sponsor me so together we can raise lots and lots of money for Home-Start Bristol. Thank you Louise xx
