October is Rett Syndrome Awareness month and we are supporting the Do One Thing fundraising campaign to raise money for Reverse Rett. Our beautiful 11 year old daughter has the genetic neurological condition Rett Syndrome. Rett syndrome steals the ability for her to walk, talk, use her hands, she has started to get scoliosis, she has had epilepsy for the last 3 years leading to many hospital stays. Research into a cure and treatments is happening world wide and there are some clinical trials ongoing and soon to be starting. All the research and support for families taking part in trials needs to be funded which is where Reverse Rett comes in. They are a small charity which have already done so much to help research but they constantly need more funding. The pandemic has hit charities hard especially small ones like Reverse Rett who do not receive any government funding. 

This October the theme for fundraising is Do One Thing. I have really wanted to do something to raise money for a while but I am no athlete so going out and running a 5K let alone a marathon is not something I would do, I have thought about what would be quite a sacrifice for me which would get people donating. I have had long hair for as long as I can remember and it is one of the things people would probably most describe about me, so after much deliberation I am going to part with my long locks on October 31st, it will be a big thing for me especially being on the larger side my hair is something I take pride in. I think of the adversities Georgia faces every day usually with a big smile on her face and shaving my hair is very trivial in comparison. I am sure Georgia will find it highly amusing.
