Love2sing Voices Community Choir Christmas Concert · 11 December 2021

Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord.

In December 2020, I was suddenly paralysed overnight. After some time at Kings College Hospital, I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a rare inflammatory disease, causing injury to the spinal cord resulting in varying degrees of paraplegia, weakness and sensory alterations. At the time, I was 39 with a partner, two sons and a very busy family, social and professional life. There was no warning sign, I simply went to bed one night a healthy young woman and woke up the next morning with no feeling from the waist down.

This December it will be one year since I was diagnosed with this life-altering condition. To mark the occasion we are holding a celebratory Christmas concert with the help of all members of my Community Choirs to raise as much money as possible for Spinal Research.

I originally set up Love2sing Voices in 2018 and we now boast over 80 adult and youth choir members.  The impact that music has on mental health, and the joy that singing can bring is beneficial to our physical and mental well-being, and is proven to be overwhelmingly therapeutic.  This has never been more true for me than over the past year with music providing a much needed escape and focus. The members of our choirs also found release in our virtual rehearsals during the peak of the pandemic before we were able to resume as a group in-person.

Please support this worthwhile cause whilst enjoying our uplifting 2021 concert, aptly named 'Rise Up' in aid of Spinal Research by donating whatever you can spare.

We will be live streaming our concert for you to watch (details of the live link to follow). Alternatively, we would love for you to join us on the evening (details below), tickets will be available on the door priced at £6 per adult, £4 concessions.
