Story
Next February 2018, we're taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5,895m) – a monumental task for two city girls who couldn’t quite manage to complete the Duke of Edinburgh award! We’re raising money for a new charity called Becoming X’, which is focused on helping people from all backgrounds build the confidence and skills to realise their full potential. We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £5,895 – the exact height of Mount Kilimanjaro! We’re paying all of our costs, so 100% of donations go to the charity.
We’ll be walking for 7 days (up to 16 hours a day!) at high altitude, walking in stifling heat at times, and camping at sub-0 temperatures at others. Our greatest fear besides blisters and exhaustion is
altitude sickness, which strikes a high percentage of climbers. That said,
we'll endeavour to support each other to reach the summit and complete a once in a lifetime experience!
Becoming X work in partnership with UNICEF, Enactus and One Young World to build skills, share knowledge and provide support via equipment, and resources. We've been fortunate enough to enjoy an excellent education and family support to achieve our own goals, and this trek represents an opportunity to give others the chance to reach their full potential. Among many other things, this trek alone will enable Becoming X to deliver skill sessions to around 5000 school children, and will fund the stationary and exercise books for 200 schools in Africa (impacting around 36,000 children).
If you feel able to support our fundraising for this worthy cause, we would be extremely grateful and will share our training and trek experience with you along the way.
