Story

Imagine being told you will lose your sight. Imagine being told that in a few years you will not be able to meet the eyes of your loved ones or admire a beautiful sunset over the sea. How would you feel?

This is what is happening to young children like Vicky, one of my friend's 4 year old daughter.  Vicky is slowly going blind. She has been diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) a severe form of degenerative eye disease progressively leading children to blindness by their late teens/ early twenties. LCA is rare and there is NO cure .

Vicky's parents along with other kids parents are working directly with researchers. Specifically right now they are funding a 3 year research project led by University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital (the leading eye hospital in Europe). The project is testing therapies to potentially slow down the progression of the condition and allow Vicky to see the beautiful world around us for longer.

There is real hope that we could save Vicky's sight and that of many other children. But we need to act fast to make the research run faster than that the disease.

Vicky's story really touched me profoundly. No child deserves a future in the dark. Together we can make a tangible contribution to advance the research. Thanks for your generous donation!

Also Vicky's parents are creating a bucket list of things for Vicky to see until she can still see. Leave a comment with a suggestion of a place for Vicky to see!
