Story
When Wendy (Lizzy’s mother) was rushed into hospital in April 2021 with a cancerous, terminal brain tumour our world was turned completely upside down. Cancer in any family is devastating but most of the time there is hope at a positive outcome. However, with brain tumours, due to the lack of knowledge about them there is less hope and many uncertainties adding to an already heartbreaking situation.
When something like this happens you immediately go onto Google and start frantically searching out statistics and survival rates. As brain tumours are still so rare there was very little to look at and certainly no comfort to be found, which is why its so important to fund and continue the research. The Brain Tumour Charity is the worlds leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. They're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change, which is why we've chosen to fundraise for them and (attempt) the 100mile Ride London cycling race.
Even though the doctor’s prognosis was 6-12 months, through Wendy’s sheer determination and strength we were given another wonderful 14 months of life before she passed away at home, surrounded by her family, in June 2022.
If the money we can raise even has a slight chance of saving another family from the devastation we’ve been through then that will at least be some comfort.
We know how concerned people are around the cost of living crisis at the moment, but when recessions and uncertainty around the economic climate hits this is when charities and those in desperate need suffer the most, which is why we appreciate any amount you can spare.
All our love,
Luca and Lizzy
