 Meningitis and scepticaemia are deadly; killing and seriously disabling in a matter of hours. Globally, 1000 people die daily. A large proportion of sufferers are university students who think they have a cold or hangover, not realizing it's actually a life-changing disease. spreading awareness of these diseases is vital to increasing the amount of people who survive it - it can be beaten!

Meningitis Research Foundation are fighting to create a world free of meningitis and septicaemia. Students are the second most at risk group (after babies and toddlers), which is why, as a student, this charity appealed to me as a particularly worthy cause. The money you donate to this amazing charity will be spent on conduction research into prevention, detection, and treatment of the disease; raising awareness of meningitis, its symptoms, and the available vaccinations; and providing support for those who have been affected by the disease. However, their incredible work relies on donations from individuals like you and I...

This is why next summer I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro - the worlds highest free standing mountain -  with a group of students from my uni, the University of Birmingham. It will be 6 day trek through remote environments with limited facilities as we take on a tough physical challenge with the added test of high altitude. At the peak, we will be nearly 6000m above sea-level! I hope to raise awareness and enable Meningitis Research Foundation to continue their incredible work.
