Flora London Marathon 2006 · 23 April 2006 ·

Meningitis Research Foundation is a charity driven by a passionate mission to prevent the devastating impact of meningitis. Founded by individuals whose lives were profoundly affected by meningitis, we are dedicated to enabling positive change by uniting people and knowledge to save lives.

Story

In April 2005, our precious little boy, Lucas, contracted meningitis at the age of just eight months.  He was in a critical state for four days and we were told that if he did survive he could be left with serious complications. It was horrifying.

Prior to his diagnosis, Lucas had been lying limp in our arms, refusing food and drink and was slipping away.  The hospital acted quickly in identifying the strain and the right drugs were administered rapidly. His recovery was gruelling for him and painful to watch but to our absolute amazement and delight Lucas has made a full recovery and is now the joyful and slightly mischeivous little boy you see here.

This is why I am running the marathon for Meningitis Research Foundation.  We were lucky that Lucas got the right drugs so quickly but many are not.

So please please dig deep and sponsor me online. As you will know, I am not a natural runner or athlete and the marathon and all the training is proving to be a huge challenge for me!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
