In early July I am dancing for 72 hours in a very deep ceremony with very little sleep and no food. The ceremony takes place every year with participants coming together from all over the world to dance and pray - for ourselves, for our families and communities, and for all life on earth. Everyone who takes part raises money for charities of their choice - those they feel make a great difference in the world. This is a give-away ceremony and so far (since the first in 2009), The Long Dance has raised more than £500,000 ($688,000) for a whole host of wonderful projects.
This deep dance is a prayer for all life on earth - It is a remembering of our responsibility to honour and protect the sanctity of life, each in our own way. It’s an opportunity to spend some time remembering that our own personal wellbeing is connected to the wellbeing of the planet, and to dedicate our dance to all our relations, past, present and future.

I am choosing to fundraise for the #2minutebeachclean, which was started in Bude, my home town, after storms left the beaches knee deep in plastic waste, bottles and fishing gear. The founder, Martin Dorey realised that if everyone picked up the plastic for even 2 minutes a day, together we could make a very real difference. This amazing charity aims to see a world without plastic litter and pollution, to inspire, educate and enable people to change the way they interact with outdoor spaces: it is devoted to cleaning up our planet 2 minutes at a time. Keeping our beaches, rivers and seas clean is essential for the future health of our planet, and for all life on earth.
The #2minutebeachclean campaign organises beach cleans. The first #2minutebeachclean stations were placed on 8 Cornish beaches in 2014. There are now over 1000 in the UK and Ireland.
Our main #2minute campaigns (#2minutebeachclean, #2minutelitterpick, #2minutestreetclean, #2minutesolution and #2minutesofpositivity) use social media and direct action to empower, educate, inspire and enable individuals, groups and businesses to make simple changes or take part in simple actions that will contribute to the planet’s wellbeing, as well as their own. We aim to educate the general public about the dangers of plastic pollution and litter through online campaigns, material, direct action, books, educational visits, talks and 2 Minute Beach School.
WE ARE DIFFERENT BECAUSE
We understand that people are busy and that even the most committed environmentalists cannot always attend beach cleans or organised clean ups. Instead we encourage them to take personal responsibility by taking 2 minutes, each and every time they visit an outside space, to pick up litter. We encourage people to remain positive – despite the scale of the problem – and to believe they can make a difference to the world.
