Story
In December 2022 life was rocked, when my Bestie Soph’s little boy Lenny became poorly and was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumour, a rare form of kidney cancer. He immediately started 5 weeks of chemotherapy, then underwent major surgery to remove the kidney and tumour. He is now in the midst of 27 weeks of further chemo which has been gruelling and tough for Lenny and the whole family - they have all been so brave. They have faced the unthinkable and that breaks my heart.
But out of the darkness came light… Candlelight(ers) to be exact. This charity brought hope from day one to what felt like a hopeless situation and they continue to do so many months on. They instantly became a reassuring presence in a haze of fear and uncertainty, offering support, spreading warmth and even bringing joy. They are there every step of the way for so many families going through the toughest of times, including Soph’s, and for that I will be forever grateful and in their debt.
Candelighters provide a vital service for families of children with cancer. I can’t do what they do, but what I can do is try to run 13.1 miles in honour of Lenny Pops and raise some money for this fantastic charity through blood, sweat and tears - and trust me there will be all of that!
So please, give whatever you can to support them so they can keep doing this. I promise to just keep going - like Soph, Lenny, Rhys and Ronnie do every day.
