London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

I am thrilled/petrified to be running this year’s London Marathon for Aspire, who are a fantastic charity and general lifeline for those recovering from spinal cord injury.

After my brother had a spinal injury a few years ago, my family learned that NHS funding for spinal injury patients does not cover accommodation after leaving hospital, nor is there much funding for physiotherapy after hospital discharge. Many people with spinal injuries end up living unsuitable accommodation, or spend years living in hospital because they can’t afford to move home. Aspire help families like mine access funding and information on adapting homes and adjusting to daily life after a life-changing injury.

I am hoping to raise £2000 so that Aspire can continue to give vital support to other families and people living with spinal cord injury.

Any donations would be very much appreciated, as would recommendations for my running playlist/general words of encouragement.

Much love x x
