We're walking 100 miles in September to raise awareness of the amazing work that Bliss do to support the families of babies born premature or sick. Here's our story...
Theo & Freddie were born at 31 weeks due to SIUGR, a condition that affects how the placenta functions. Theo was born weighing a tiny 2lb4oz and Freddie was the 'big' twin at 3lb3oz!! They were cared for by the fantastic team at the Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit in Sheffield for 12 weeks. For the final 4 weeks Freddie was at home and Theo stayed on the unit to continue treatment for meningitis.
We travelled to and from hospital multiple times a day to spend time with the boys. The journey itself was 6 miles there and back. We estimate that we travelled at least 500 miles during our time at Jessops (and that's not including all the times we travelled to the hospital before they were born!). Many families travel much further.
Being in NICU is lonely and overwhelming, but also beautiful and full of hope. We're walking to help Bliss be able to continue to support families like us when they need it most.
Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting us!
