Great Birmingham Run 2024 · 5 May 2024 ·
I am running the Birmingham Half Marathon with my husband and sister on 5th May 2024 to raise money for Macmillan, for the support they give not only to a person with cancer, but their friends and families too.
Back in April 2023 our wonderful Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer with bone metastases. This news came completely out of the blue and sent the whole family into shock. The last 12 months have been difficult all round; hospital stays, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone treatment and a big operation.
Dad fought so hard with everyone supporting him.
We reached out to Macmillan and their team of nurses from the outset whilst we waited for the initial test results to know the extent of the news we had just been given. They provided the help, care and support we all needed at that time, and continue to need now. Dad’s Macmillan nurse has been brilliant, providing support to both my Dad and my Mom. Her expertise and care have been so important in helping navigate such an awful situation.
Anyone that knows me knows I absolutely hate running! I could have signed up for a bungee jump, sky dive or something I would have actually enjoyed. But I wanted to do something I found difficult to raise money for such a brilliant charity. Being a maths teacher, I run working out how much money we could raise per 100m, 10m and even step sometimes when it’s hard! Training has started and we’ll post regular updates to let you know how we’re getting on.
If anyone wants to run the Birmingham Half with us or support on the day here is the event:
