EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

We are the largest charity dedicated to kidney research in the UK. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Treatments are gruelling, relentless. There is no cure. We say this isn't good enough. We will transform kidney health. Kidney disease ends here.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am going to run/jog the Birmingham Half Marathon on October 11th and at the same time raise money to fund research which will hopefully save the lives of over 3 million people who are living with chronic kidney disease.  The research is into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease.

My uncle Richard ('Bez') suffered kidney failiure in both his kidneys a long time ago. Bez had to go on dialysis treatment until a kidney transplant was found.  The transplant was initially a success however this kidney lasted only a year.  Dialysis treatment began again.  Bez's brother and two sisters each offered him a kidney and it was my uncle Mike's which was the best match, and this has lasted 12 years so far. However, anti-rejection drugs cause a large number of sometime life threatening difficulties and research into this is so important.
