Story
For those of you that know me you’ll know that exercise really isn’t my thing. I’m more likely to be found running to get 6 chicken nuggets than doing a park run on a sat morning! However after watching my big brother run so many marathons and half marathons, I thought 2020 would be the year I’d get up and challenge myself.
Every year around the world, between 250,000 and 500,000 people suffer a spinal cord injury. (World Heath Organisation. In the UK and Ireland alone there are estimated to be 50,000 people paralysed due to a spinal cord injury. Three people every day are told they will never walk again.
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
As a nursing student I have seen the amazing breakthroughs Spinal research have achieved and continue to do so. I know January is officially the longest month but I would really appreciate any amount you can give to this amazing charity. Your generosity will certainly help me get up in the morning to go for a run and keep me out of McDonald’s!! If you’re also looking for the laugh of your life then come on down on the 29Th March to watch me run for my life!
Thank you!
