I will be completing the Manchester 10k, as a Wheelchair racing athlete, for Cmtkids.

In 2015, at the age of 15 I was lucky enough to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Japan. However leading up to the Jamboree, I found that I was struggling to keep up with my friends, I would be in pain and the ability to walk longer distance slowly become more and more difficult.  So, I went to the doctors and spent the next few months leading up to the Jamboree, at hospital and in and out of medical appointments to find out what the issue was. I got my results back a few weeks after returning from the Jamboree. I was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth disease, a progressive neurological condition that causes the muscles to slowly deteriorate over time, making everyday task difficult, effecting my feet, legs, hands and eye sight.

Japan was the first time I even needed to use a wheelchair to get about for longer distances, and thanks to the help and support of the rest of my unit I was able to have an enjoyable amazing time, like everyone else.  Since, Japan I am now dependent on my wheelchair (which I call Wheelie) to get around.

CmtKids are a charity that support young adults and teenagers living with Cmt. They run activity weekends that allow kids to meet other people with Charcot Marie Tooth disease, and take part in things that they might never have had the opportunity to do. Thanks to the help of CmtKids I am a more confident person.

I took up Wheelchair racing a year ago to help keep myself fit and go towards my DofE. I am now a fully classified T54 Athlete. I will be competing in my first ever 10k in aid of CmtKids, to say thank you for all there amazing work and to allow them to keep running the brilliant kids weekends.
